Stud Up!: Clean Your Nails

Hey studs,

You don’t have to get manicured all the time. Invest in a nail brush, a buffer, a fingernail file, cuticle cleaner and some clear fingernail polish. Yes I said it, FINGERNAIL POLISH! Why in the world would a stud get fingernail polish? The answer, there are many of us that are very active and tend to have a lot of use of our hands (get your mind out the gutter, at least for a little bit). Our nails are dull and many times can produce dirt from anywhere. You know who you are; just got out of the shower or did dishes and the nails were looking real good. Then an hour later, the only thing you did was sit down and your nails look like you were digging in dirt. It happens to all of us at some point.

Some women don’t need the fingernail polish. They just have been blessed with naturally shiny nails or can only use a buffer to get what they need. For the rest of just a coat of clear fingernail polish is fine. Personally, I prefer the clear pink one, I’m just being honest. It gives your nails a more natural, cleaner look, but if pink scares you (another post about color to come), then use the clear.

Besides, you can always make a date out of it with your girl. You paint your girl’s nails and she watches you paint your own LOL! It will get her giddy on the inside, but she will appreciate that you are taking care of yourself! Now if she looks at you crazy, real talk, look at how she treats herself. If you are going to be clean, she has to be clean too!

Fingernail health is very important and should not be overlooked. Please read this article for a bit more information.

P.S. – This also applies to your toenails. If you don’t want your girl tearing you up like Freddy Kruger brought a cat to a knife factory and they ate razor blades while you sleep, then don’t do it to her!

Stud Up!: Wear clothes that fit.

Okay bois, please buy clothes that are your size. It’s one thing to have a little wiggle room in your clothes, like a boot-cut pair of jeans, even baggy fit is fine, just wear it in your size. Wearing bigger clothes does not make you look more masculine, it makes you look bigger. For some bois I’ve seen, not even masculine, just messy.

Let me ask this, when was the last time you took your measurements? I’m serious, your waist, hip, and bra size (yeah, I cringed too). You have to do these things to find great products and truly know your size. Go to your nearest suit store and get your measurements. Mom and Pop shops are the best because not only do they give you your measures, you can cut a deal off a tailored suit for getting your measurements.

Learn your shape type here (they even give a few pointers on what to shop for). This is a great place to start when really looking at and trying on clothes and seeing what really works. Is the hem of the pants tapered, are darts in the shirt, or are there gathers in the fabric? You need to consider these things to get the most out of your clothes, from the street to the boardroom these questions will always apply.

Know your fabric: Brocade

Brocade: Rich jacquard-woven fabric with all-over interwoven design of raised figures or leaves. From the French word for “to ornament”. Which is used in neckwear.

– © ExecStyle

Black silk, raised brocade.

Silk, raised brocade, tone-on-tone.

Cleaning Instructions – Some brocades can be hand washed, other must be dry cleaned. Hand wash in cool water using a mild detergent. Never scrub vigorously or wring the garment.

To prevent snags or pulls that could happen in the dryer, dry brocade garments flat. To prevent crushing or flattening the design, always iron on the wrong side of the fabric. Use a press cloth or unprinted woven cotton towel between the iron and the fabric.

Speech Game!: Entrepreneur

Knowledge is your key to everything. Don’t get caught up in the hype, trust me, for studs it’s easy to become a part of your surroundings. At one point in life this even applied to me, but I’m a firm believer that if your vocabulary gets stronger more things are possible and less things can be taken from you. With that, here is the first word in our dictionary:

En·tre·pre·neur [ahn-truh-pruh-nur, -noor; French] verb

noun

1. A person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.

2. An employer of productive labor; contractor. verb (used with object)

3. To deal with or initiate as an entrepreneur. verb (used without object)

4. To act as an entrepreneur.

Stud Up!: Jack Threads / Thrillist

Okay first of all let me say this, you have to get on Jack Threads NOW! I’ve been shopping with them for years (almost 3 years) and window shopping even longer (at least 6 years). Studs please, when you work hard you want to look good, right?! I’m talking to the one looking at the link like “I don’t have any money.” The beautiful thing is, you don’t have too! Save up $10 here, $5 there, $50 if you worked some overtime at work, or wait for tax season like I do (ONLY AFTER I pay my bills – definitely another post). Get it together ladies, time goes on with or without you, so why not look good while you’re here?

The reason I put this link here was for you to see that your dream clothes are not out of reach. I put it to you like this; find a shirt, pants, etc that you like on the above site that you like then stroll down to Roses, Ross, TJ Max, the thrift store, Salvation army, your daddy’s/brother’s closet… just go somewhere! Find the inexpensive clothes to start out, but by some good, no make that GREAT accessories.

Come on Studs what is the first thing a Femme does when she sees you? She looks you up and down. Some are even bold enough to get close just so they can smell you (Again, another post – hygiene). Take the time to get some really nice accessories to match your $20 Fly!

I’ll have more specific tips, pics, etc. on the blog later, but we all have to start somewhere…

*clears throat* “…” means get going 🙂
